“The Power of Pressing Pause”
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if only a ‘life-remote’ existed to press ‘Pause’ at any given moment?
Just like a really good movie, or perhaps a game that you just don’t want to miss a single second before heading to the kitchen for more popcorn, or even for those bathroom breaks, you plainly and simply press ‘Pause’ and – bam! Everything stops. And at that very moment, whatever you’ve been watching suddenly freezes in time, and it remains there, ready for whenever we decide to pick things up again.
Wouldn’t it also be wonderful if we also had that same remote, but for life? Moments of joy that you’d not want to end, or maybe an awkward moment just before it takes a turn for the worse. Or even yet, hitting Pause on a tragedy before it actually begins to take place.
I’ve had my fair share of ‘pause-wanting’. Some good. Others bad, really bad. But letting the ‘screen’ continue to roll is part of life. There is so much pausing that you can do before the memory bank of the devise gets saturated and it either automatically continues to run or even worse (like what happens on my streaming devise), it shuts down by itself.
And you, my friend, you do not want your life to shut down. Because letting the ‘movie of your life’ or the ‘game of your life’ continue to roll is what makes all of us humans. Making mistakes and then mending them, creating memories and then remembering and cherishing them later for the rest of our lives.
So perhaps in those moments, the ones we wish we could press ‘Pause’ on, are those very moments when we must think about what we want next. To let time pass without any action, and neglect a moment that might have the potential of becoming something wonderful? Or take the moment and seize it.
I do hope it’s the latter.
